Re-use recordings from previous years/semesters
Include as much detail as possible when referencing an older video as possible. Exact title, course the video was used in, the semester and year the video was last used in, instructor name, and length of video are all useful ways to identify a specific video (there are hundreds of thousands of videos in the MediaSpace library so specific search criteria are helpful. Alternatively, if you can provide the exact link for a video, that is sufficient.
If an edit is necessary, include specific details about what editing is needed in the Description field. For example, "remove clip between 1 min 33 seconds and 4 min 40 seconds". You do not need to request editing if the only thing that is changing is the title of the video.
If a video needs to have new slides added to it, that should instead be listed as a new recording, with details about which slides are being updated in the description.
Looking for old recordings in MediaSpace
- You can find all past recordings in the MSUCOM Video Repository MediaSpace channel. If you don't have access to that channel, email Ian Walker at walkeri1@msu.edu.
- There are instructions for how to search the channel on the channel description; An example of search might be “ost555” “ss22” “bielawski” (including quotation marks and spaces). This search would return recordings with tags that match ost555, ss22, and bielawski. It would also return any items that match these terms in the title, description, or captions.
- To retrieve the link to a video, select the video and click the “Share” tab, then copy the link from the first share page.
